Incident Report: Antisemitic riot in Bern on October 11
Event: An unauthorized "pro-Palestine" protest that can be described as an antisemitic riot in character was staged in Bern, Switzerland just two days after a major ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was announced. The ceasefire itself was holding for a little over a day at the time of the "national demonstration" in Bern.
Police and media put the crowd size at around 2,000 to up to 5,000 people whereas protesters have pushed the message that there were 10,000 people present on their channels. Given the unauthorized nature of the demonstration, they were met with police who deployed water cannons and tear gas in an effort to disperse crowds. There were also brawls and fireworks along with café tables and chairs and other blunt objects thrown at police.
