WASHINGTON, DC & BERN, SWITZERLAND – Georgetown University's Security Studies Program and the Bern Security Dialogue, a new, independent geopolitical forum, will hold their first event together. The strategic partnership and transatlantic conversation will begin with former US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (ret.) Gen Mark Milley and German Army (ret.) Lt. Gen. Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart, the former commander of NATO's Multinational Corps Northeast overseeing the Baltic region at Georgetown University's Copley Formal Lounge on February 19. The conversation between the retired generals will be moderated by Col. Georg Häsler, the security politics correspondent at Neue Zürcher Zeitung.

The fireside chat will be preceded by a panel discussion on Alpine security in a fragmented world with Professor Dan Byman of the Security Studies Program and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Gideon Adugna, Senior Fellow and Political Advisor to the Chief of the German Navy, moderated by Georgetown Professor Sara Bjerg Moller. Byman is also a member of the Bern Security Dialogue international advisory board.

Häsler said, "The fate of transatlantic relations concerns the security of the whole of Europe, even and especially vulnerable neutral nations at the core of European geography and critical infrastructure."

"Europe as a whole must prepare to confront the challenges of the remainder of the 21st century and beyond while growing and adapting to a world in which hybrid and conventional warfare, advanced technologies and the sovereignty of nations depends on collaboration among liberal democracies," Rebecca Patterson, Director of the Security Studies Program, added.
