About the author

The Alpine Security Monitor is an independent publication in weekly newsletter format with occasional special reports produced by Amanda Rivkin. She previously worked in luxury brand communications and as a senior expert at the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga, Latvia. In journalism, she began her career first as a photographer stringer in Chicago for The New York Times and Agence France Presse and later as a news writer and editor at Deutsche Welle in Bonn, Germany. In between, her work was exhibited at the main branch of the Chicago Public Library and the Museo della Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo Da Vinci in Milan and twice during the Aleppo International Photography Festival as well as at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival in the US state of Colorado. She received funding from the International Women's Media Foundation's Howard Buffett Commitment Grant, the Fulbright Program and the National Geographic Society's Young Explorer's Grant. An alum of Georgetown University's Security Studies Program, she has extensive research experience on security issues including terrorism, espionage, political warfare and information operations.
